Frequently asked questions
What is the ADHD Focus Room?
A free, quiet space on Eternal Nebula built for focus: one sound, a short timer, and nothing else competing for your attention. Pick a preset, tap start, and work until the timer ends.
Does background noise actually help people with ADHD focus?
Research suggests it can help some people. A 2024 meta-analysis of 13 randomized trials found that white and pink noise gave a small but real focus benefit for people with ADHD. It does not help everyone — if noise makes it harder for you to concentrate, the room's silence option is there for a reason.
What about brown noise?
Brown noise is popular in ADHD communities online, but it has not been tested in clinical trials yet — the research so far is on white and pink noise. We include it because people like it, and we label it honestly as untested.
Which sound should I start with?
Start with 'Quiet the room' (a gentle stream) or 'Soften distractions' (waterfall). Keep the volume comfortable — about conversation level, roughly 45–60 dB.
How long should a focus session be?
Short is fine. The room offers 10, 15, 25, and 50-minute timers, with 15 minutes as the default. Many people find a short, timed session easier to start than open-ended work.
Is the ADHD Focus Room a treatment for ADHD?
No. It is a focus aid, not a medical treatment, and it does not replace professional care.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is completely free, with no ads, and no account is needed. An optional free account just saves your mixes and stats.
Many people with ADHD find steady background noise helps them focus. If noise makes it harder for you, silence is fine too.
