Rain sounds for sleep: why they may help and how to use the sleep timer
Rain can give an evening a familiar backdrop. That does not mean it works for everyone, or that a recording is a treatment for sleep difficulties.
Why some people choose rain
A steady background can make changes in surrounding sound less noticeable. A familiar rain scene may also simply feel pleasant. These are reasons to try it, not proof that rain will improve sleep. A systematic review of continuous noise found very low-quality evidence for improved sleep, with findings ranging from improvement to disruption. It does not establish a benefit from this particular rain recording.
Set up a gentle ending
Open the player and choose Midnight Rain. Start playback, then choose 15, 30, 60, or 90 minutes in the Sleep timer control and press Set sleep timer. The player shows the remaining time. When the interval ends, it fades the whole active mix over about 45 seconds before stopping. That fade comes after the selected interval. Cancel sleep timer clears the countdown without stopping your recording.
Leave room for silence
Start at a low, comfortable volume and avoid turning it up to overpower your surroundings. If the recording is distracting, pause it. You do not need sound playing all night. Browser suspension can delay timer handling, and some mobile devices restrict gradual volume changes. Test your own device while awake; the timer is not a precise alarm. Closing the tab may stop playback.
